Warner Brothers have announced that popular eighties cartoon ThunderCats is to be revived, and Japanese animation studio Studio 4°C has been tapped to animate the series.
Cartoon Network is set to air the series, and they are quick to cash in on the anime connection.
Sam Register, Cartoon Network’s Executive Vice President of Creative Affairs, was quoted as saying the series will be “Warner Bros. Animation’s first anime series,” conveniently forgetting that the original was also animated in Japan by Pacific Animation Corporation, which would go on to became Studio Ghibli.
Indeed, they lay it on quite thickly in their press releases:
Roaring to life through WBA and Studio4°C’s use of the Japanese animated artistry of anime, “ThunderCats” characters Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and others will spring off the screen with realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.
Studio 4°C already has strong ties with Warner Bros., as they are also working together on the anime adaptation of Halo.
Former Capcom artist Hideki Kamiya who was a lead designer for Bayonetta, and currently with Platinum Games, has lately been disapproving publicly about erotic doujinshi based on his game, saying they lack “love.” Bayonetta is basically a sexy librarian in a black leather cat suit, running around bustin caps from her 8 inch high-heeled gun shoes.
He vented his displeasure with such works on Twitter:
There are erotic doujinshi based on Bayonetta… there are fans who don’t like that sort of thing, and you really can’t think the people responsible have any love for the game.

I don’t feel there’s any love at all in making an ero-doujinshi based on something.

Just discovered this trailer for the new Tekken film due for release some time this year. I have no idea why this game was made into a live action film. I remember the last movie I saw similar to this at a movie theater was the DOA film and I ended up walking out halfway through. But the crazy thing is, I checked the movie info out on imdb.com and it has an 8.0 out of 10 movie rating! Think I need to go back and make sure I read that rating correctly. It’s being made by Crystal Sky, the production company behind Ghost Rider and the “in development” Castlevania film. Trailer is below.
Just found out a live action movie will be released based on the Anime/Manga Gantz. If you haven’t seen it, it’s basically about a couple of Japanese students who are killed but instead of being killed they are transported to an alternate dimension. Everything in this dimension is completely the same and they remain in Japan, however there are no people. This alternate reality/city is actually a battle ground where they are given futuristic weaponry and must tactically fight a pre-selected alien for the battle round. As a fighter you are one of a handful of random humans that must fight these aliens and you must fight, whether you’re a woman, child, or very old. There are no instructions and nobody knows what the hell’s going on. In these fights you must win because if you lose it means you’ve been killed. It’s definitely one of those – What would I do if I were in that situation? stories. More unpredictable than most.
Very curious to see what they will do with this and how it will translate into film. I believe it was a two part series maybe 25+ episodes so I already know there’s no way they can completely do it justice, but who cares! I’m gonna watch it! As mentioned in a previous post, Highschool of the Dead is a manga following the story of group of Japanese students that are caught up in the zombie apocalypse. It’s well-known for excessive amounts of violence, gore, and ofcourse obscene amounts of fanservice. And apparently the director is Tetsuro Araki, who has worked on Death Note and portions of Aoi Bungaku. The anime is set to air in the upcoming Fall 2010 season.
